Communication Consultant
Organizational Context
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is seeking a Communications Consultant to support its Cotabato Sub Office in BARMM and Mindanao. This role operates under the direct supervision of the Cotabato Sub-Office Head, with coordination from the Country Office Communications and Partnerships Unit. The consultant will enhance UNFPA's visibility and engagement through strategic communication efforts focused on sexual and reproductive health rights and humanitarian emergencies in the region.
Job Purpose
The Communications Consultant will support UNFPA's mission by crafting and disseminating impactful messages to raise awareness and drive action on sexual and reproductive health rights, particularly in the context of peace dividends in the Bangsamoro region and humanitarian emergencies across Mindanao. This role involves creating and managing engaging content for social media, developing communication collateral, and supporting advocacy campaigns. By amplifying UNFPA's work and advocacies through strategic communication, the consultant aims to increase the organization's visibility, engage stakeholders effectively, and strengthen public awareness of critical issues, ultimately contributing to the fulfillment of UNFPA's mandate.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for multimedia content creation and documentation, producing visibility materials, graphics, videos, infographics, and photos for UNFPA's social media platforms and donor requirements. This includes drafting human-interest stories, testimonies, and features highlighting program impact, and documenting UNFPA activities through photography, videography, and written reports, potentially involving travel to project sites. Media engagement support, including organizing press conferences and drafting media briefs, is also a key duty. The role involves serving as the communications focal point for the sub-office, providing design and layout support, formatting and editing communications, and managing a digital archive. Additionally, the consultant will review partner materials for compliance, support event coordination by developing digital assets and media kits, and lead the implementation of the communication plan in BARMM, integrating planned activities and supporting national initiatives as requested.
Work Experience
At least four (4) years of relevant experience in communications is required. Proven experience in social media management and content creation is essential. Experience in media and communications work in the BARMM or Mindanao region is an advantage.
Skills
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English and Filipino. Knowledge of digital tools, social media platforms, and analytics. Proficiency in editing and design platforms (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva). Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with excellent organizational and time-management skills. Fluency in English and Filipino; knowledge of BARMM language/s is an advantage.
