Organizational Context
The driver reports to the International Operations Manager and Senior Driver, supporting the UNFPA office in Mozambique. Job Purpose
The Driver provides essential, reliable, and safe transportation services, upholding the highest standards of discretion and integrity. This role requires a deep sense of responsibility and excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The incumbent will demonstrate a client-oriented approach, exhibiting courtesy, tact, and the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds, ensuring smooth and secure movement for UNFPA personnel and visitors.
Responsibilities
The Driver is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation for UNFPA staff, officials, and visitors, including mail and document delivery/collection, and airport meet-and-greets with potential visa/customs assistance. This role requires staying informed about traffic, road, and security conditions for timely arrivals. The Driver will manage vehicle maintenance, including minor repairs, cleaning, and scheduling major services, while maintaining daily logs and assisting with maintenance plans. Responsibilities also include tracking insurance and tax formalities, acting as a local language translator when needed, and potentially guiding junior drivers. General administrative support to the Country Office staff may also be required.
Work Experience
A valid driver's license and a professional driver's license are required. Three years of experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a safe driving record is necessary. Proficiency in driving rules, regulations, chauffeur protocol, local road conditions, and defensive driving skills is essential. Basic skills in minor vehicle repairs are also required.
