Communications and External Relations Associate

Organizational Context

The Communications and External Relations Associate will be based in Kyiv, supporting UNFPA Ukraine's donor-focused communications and external relations. Reporting to the Communications Specialist, the role operates within UNFPA, the UN agency dedicated to sexual and reproductive health and rights, aiming to achieve a world where every pregnancy is intended, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Job Purpose

This role is designed to bolster UNFPA Ukraine's donor communications, visibility, and external relations efforts. The Associate will ensure that donor-funded programmes are communicated effectively and that all donor visibility requirements are met. By leveraging strategic communications, the incumbent will contribute to strengthening partnerships, enhancing advocacy, and supporting resource mobilization. The position ensures all communication activities align with UNFPA's branding standards and specific donor agreements, thereby reinforcing the organization's presence and impact.

Responsibilities

The Communications and External Relations Associate is responsible for supporting the planning and execution of donor-focused communications and visibility initiatives in collaboration with programme, communications, and external relations teams. This includes coordinating the creation of donor-facing materials such as stories, press releases, newsletters, factsheets, and multimedia content. The role involves monitoring and ensuring adherence to donor branding and visibility requirements throughout programme implementation. Additionally, the Associate will maintain donor communications tracking systems, contribute to donor reporting, and coordinate with various teams and partners to ensure timely delivery of communication products, while also supporting quality assurance and media monitoring.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of progressive experience in communications, donor communications, external relations, public relations, journalism, partnerships, or advocacy is necessary. Experience in producing various communication products and coordinating production processes is essential. Familiarity with donor visibility requirements and experience with international organizations or UN agencies is advantageous.

Skills

Key skills include strong writing, editing, coordination, and organizational abilities. Proficiency in managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines is crucial. The role requires excellent internal and external communication and advocacy skills, the ability to build strategic partnerships, and competence in results-based communications and reporting. Familiarity with donor visibility, branding, and producing high-quality communication products is also important.
