The Assistant Representative, reporting to the Representative or Deputy Representative, designs, develops, and manages an innovative country programme, translating regional and country goals into tangible solutions and results within a complex global environment.
Job Purpose
The Assistant Representative contributes to managing UNFPA programme activities in population and development, reproductive health, and gender. This role advances the ICPD policy agenda in a politically sensitive environment, responding to government priorities and fostering partnerships with government, multi-lateral agencies, and civil society. The position coordinates technical advisors and contributes to UN system coordination through policy dialogue and joint initiatives, acting on behalf of the Representative or Deputy Representative as needed.
Responsibilities
The role involves conducting policy dialogue with government and development partners to integrate UNFPA priorities into national plans and UN frameworks. It includes translating global strategies into country-specific advocacy, creating evidence-based messages sensitive to political and social contexts. The Assistant Representative promotes a results-based approach, integrating innovative policies into country programmes and ensuring responsiveness to national needs. Responsibilities also include facilitating programme results by coordinating inputs, monitoring, and evaluating consultants, promoting knowledge sharing, and contributing to resource mobilization through donor identification and proposal preparation.
Work Experience
Requires 5 years of progressive professional experience in development and population activities, including programme design, appraisal, and management. Demonstrated ability to refine programme design strategically, lead teams to achieve results, mobilize resources, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills for partnership building.
