UNFPA

Consultant for documentation and analysis of digital determinants of adolescent SRHR and promising digital CSE models

CON
Organizational Context
UNFPA is the United Nations agency dedicated to sexual and reproductive health and rights. Its Strategic Plan for 2026-2029 aims to accelerate the ICPD Programme of Action and achieve the SDGs by 2030. The organization focuses on ending unmet needs for family planning, preventable maternal deaths, gender-based violence, and adapting to demographic change. This role contributes to these goals by enhancing understanding and scaling of digital interventions for adolescent SRHR.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to document, compile, and curate promising digital Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) models relevant to the Asia Pacific region. It will analyze the factors influencing adolescents' use of these digital platforms, with a specific focus on gender equality, healthy relationships, consent, online safety, and the linkages between CSE and adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH). The role involves a landscape analysis to map how digital ecosystems impact adolescent SRHR, identifying pathways through which digital CSE and other technologies can facilitate access to offline SRH services and information. The findings will inform UNFPA and partners in promoting, leveraging, and scaling efforts to support adolescent well-being in digital spaces.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct a landscape analysis of promising digital CSE models for adaptation and scaling in the Asia Pacific. This includes mapping digital determinants affecting adolescent SRHR and identifying common pathways through which digital ecosystems influence adolescent knowledge, attitudes, norms, practices, and online safety. Key tasks involve developing a conceptual framework of digital ecosystem factors impacting adolescent SRHR, conducting a state of evidence and scoping review of digital ASRHR and CSE models in the region, and analyzing digital information ecosystems used by young people. The consultant will also scope and document youth-led, scalable, and sustainable digital CSE initiatives and identify pathways linking digital CSE to offline SRH services. The documentation process will involve desk reviews, regional consultations with stakeholders, and validation of models, considering generative AI impacts and digital literacy needs.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience at the intersection of adolescent/youth health and well-being, technology, and AI. Experience with youth SRHR, online safety, and mental health is an asset. Prior experience in conducting scoping reviews, qualitative interviews, evidence synthesis, and knowledge translation is required. Demonstrated experience working with youth-led entities and online communities is also necessary.
Skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Experience in evidence synthesis, knowledge translation, and working with youth-led entities and digital platforms. Familiarity with adolescent SRHR, online safety, and AI is beneficial.
