Organizational Context
The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Assistant supports UNFPA's ICT systems, including enterprise resource planning, desktop administration, and server operations. Reporting to the Regional ICT Specialist, this role is crucial for maintaining the functionality of fundamental ICT systems and ensuring the operational efficiency of staff. UNFPA's mandate focuses on delivering a world where every pregnancy is intended, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Job Purpose
The ICT Assistant performs procedural and specialized activities to support UNFPA's ICT systems, encompassing enterprise resource planning, desktop administration, server operations, hardware, software, and audio-visual components. This role involves evaluating, testing, installing, configuring, and maintaining ICT system components and providing user training. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining technical documentation and serving as a focal point for user requests. The work directly impacts the delivery of routine ICT administration, closely supporting other ICT team members and ensuring the operational efficiency of all UNFPA staff, indirectly contributing to the delivery of UNFPA-wide programmes.
Responsibilities
The ICT Assistant provides comprehensive procedural support for ICT operations, managing service requests, creating work orders, and maintaining electronic and paper files, databases, and ICT inventory. In ICT administration, the role involves evaluating, testing, installing, configuring, and maintaining systems and equipment, with a focus on Google Workspace. Responsibilities include routine administration, operation, and technical support for server systems, providing second-level user support and troubleshooting, extracting and correcting data from databases, performing server backups, and assisting in report generation. The incumbent also assesses user training needs, prepares materials, and delivers on-the-job training. Additionally, they assist with remote technical support for country offices, ensuring system uptime and connectivity, and manage the integrity, transparency, and equity of assigned UNFPA resources.
Work Experience
Good working knowledge of computer information systems, including micro-computer operating systems (e.g., MS/DOS, Windows), hardware, application software, and office technology. Ability to understand data, use office technology for input/extraction, develop and provide training, and support diverse users remotely. Skills in problem identification, solution development, prompt and proactive service response, integrity, reliability, confidentiality, and handling work under time constraints are essential. Experience in following up on ICT issues and equipment logistics is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in computer information systems, operating systems, hardware, and application software. Ability to manage data, provide training, and offer remote support. Strong problem-solving, integrity, reliability, and time management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Arabic.
