Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to translate the national Disability Survey questionnaire from English into Pidgin. This ensures that the data collection tools are linguistically accurate, culturally appropriate, and easily understood by both field interviewers and survey respondents. By providing high-quality translations, the role directly supports the collection of reliable, disaggregated data necessary to advance disability equity, protect human rights, and improve access to vital services across Papua New Guinea. The accurate translation is fundamental to the success of the survey and subsequent policy development.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to translate survey questionnaires from English to Pidgin, ensuring strict adherence to the original meaning, context, and technical accuracy. This includes reviewing and proofreading all translated documents for grammatical accuracy, consistency, and clarity. The consultant will maintain absolute confidentiality of all accessed information. Close coordination with project staff, the National Statistical Office, and technical teams is required to clarify terminology and context. All completed translations must be submitted within agreed timelines, incorporating feedback and revisions as requested.
Work Experience
Requires 3-5 years of experience in English-Pidgin translation/interpretation, with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience translating survey questionnaires, research instruments, or public health documents is highly desirable. Knowledge of disability concepts, human rights, and survey data collection processes is an asset.
