The UNFPA Regional Office for West and Central Africa (WCARO) supports 23 country offices in implementing the organization's mandate. The Communications Unit is crucial for UNFPA's visibility, focusing on strategic content production, human interest stories, and multimedia documentation of missions, events, and programs. This role supports the Communication Advisor.
Job Purpose
This internship offers practical experience in professional photography and videography within a dynamic international environment. The intern will support UNFPA WCARO's communication objectives by producing high-quality visual content for social media, donors, digital platforms, and institutional communications. The goal is to enhance the visibility of UNFPA's work through compelling multimedia storytelling, documenting field missions, events, and program impact.
Responsibilities
The intern will be responsible for photography, covering missions, field visits, workshops, meetings, and official events, ethically documenting human interest stories, and delivering professional quality photos after sorting and retouching. They will also contribute to organizing the regional photo library. In videography, the intern will film interviews, field activities, and key moments, produce short videos for social media (horizontal and vertical formats), and participate in creating human interest and program highlight videos. Responsibilities include setting up equipment (light, sound, framing) and ensuring all content adheres to UNFPA's visual and ethical guidelines. General support to the Communication Unit includes assisting with content production for major campaigns, archiving multimedia content, and contributing to creative brainstorming for digital productions.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is required, but a strong understanding of visual storytelling and social media formats is beneficial. Familiarity with professional cameras, microphones, and lighting equipment is expected.
Skills
Proficiency in photography and videography techniques, operation of professional equipment, photo retouching (Lightroom or equivalent), and video editing (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, Canva). Knowledge of AI technologies relevant to the field. Strong visual storytelling skills, creativity, aesthetic sense, ability to work under deadlines, organizational skills, attention to detail, teamwork, autonomy, and willingness to learn. Fluency in French or English; bilingualism is desirable.
