International Consultant: Development of In-Depth Analysis Census Results, Erbil, Iraq
Organizational Context
The UNFPA Iraq Country Office, in collaboration with Iraqi statistical commissions, successfully conducted a National Population and Housing Census in 2024. This census generated crucial data on socio-demographic characteristics, household information, housing, mortality, and durable goods ownership. The Federal and Kurdistan Regional Statistical Commissions are committed to analyzing and disseminating these results to inform policy and programs. UNFPA is the lead UN agency focused on reproductive health, population, and gender equality.
Job Purpose
This role serves to provide expert international guidance for the in-depth thematic analysis of the 2024 Iraq Population and Housing Census data. Working collaboratively with national consultants and statisticians, the incumbent will lead the development of three high-quality analytical products aligned with user needs. The purpose is to enhance the country's understanding of population trends and components, ensuring the census data is effectively utilized for policy formulation and program development. This involves guiding the methodology, data analysis, training national teams, and ensuring the validation and dissemination of findings.
Responsibilities
The International Consultant will provide overall guidance to national experts on the methodology and execution of data analysis for the census results. This includes advising on optimal team composition and thematic assignments, ensuring the availability of necessary expertise in data analysis, GIS, and subject matter. The consultant will design and conduct online training sessions on thematic analysis, covering data processing, indicator identification, evaluation, integration of GIS, validation, and dissemination strategies. A detailed calendar and timeline for producing analytical products will be developed in consultation with stakeholders. Regular virtual meetings will be held to assess progress and address challenges. The consultant will supervise analysis teams, ensure adherence to standards, and collaborate on internal and external validation of reports. Quality assurance of draft and final analytical reports is a key responsibility, alongside performing other assigned tasks.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in demography, statistical research, and data analysis is required, including experience with census undertaking or large-scale household surveys. Familiarity with demographic issues in Iraq and the region is beneficial. Experience in training national counterparts in data analysis and report writing is desirable. Proficiency in statistical and demographic analysis software is expected.
