Job Purpose

The National Individual Consultant for Public Health Midwifery Investment Specialist will provide specialized technical expertise to support UNFPA's strategic objectives in strengthening midwifery services and investments in public health. This role is crucial for enhancing the quality and accessibility of reproductive, maternal, and newborn health services in Nigeria. The consultant will contribute to policy analysis, program development, and capacity building initiatives aimed at improving midwifery education, practice, and integration within the broader health system. Their work will directly impact the achievement of UNFPA's goals related to maternal and child survival and well-being.

Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for conducting in-depth analysis of the current landscape of midwifery investment and public health programs in Nigeria. This includes identifying gaps, challenges, and opportunities for enhancing midwifery services. They will provide technical guidance on developing and implementing evidence-based strategies and interventions to strengthen midwifery education, training, and professional development. The specialist will also support the development of investment cases and proposals for midwifery and related maternal and newborn health services. Furthermore, the role involves collaborating with government ministries, professional midwifery associations, and other stakeholders to advocate for policy reforms and resource mobilization. The consultant will contribute to monitoring and evaluating the impact of midwifery investments and programs, ensuring alignment with national health priorities and UNFPA's strategic framework.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in public health, with a specific focus on maternal and reproductive health, and midwifery. Experience in program design, implementation, and evaluation, particularly in developing countries, is required. Proven experience in policy analysis, advocacy, and resource mobilization related to health services is also essential. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is desirable.
