Organizational Context
The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to UNFPA Ghana Country Office staff, officials, and visitors. Reporting to the Administrative Assistant, this role operates within UNFPA's mandate to ensure every pregnancy is intended, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. The position supports the UNFPA Strategic Plan and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals by facilitating the organization's operations in Ghana.
Job Purpose
The Driver is essential for the smooth operation of the UNFPA Ghana Country Office, supporting its 8th Country Programme (2023-2027). This role directly contributes to UNFPA's mission by ensuring the safe and timely transportation of personnel and documents, thereby facilitating the delivery of services related to reducing preventable maternal deaths, unmet family planning needs, and gender-based violence. The driver's adherence to high standards of discretion, integrity, and client-oriented service is crucial for maintaining UNFPA's reputation and operational effectiveness within the framework of national priorities and the "Ghana Beyond Aid" vision.
Responsibilities
The Driver is responsible for providing reliable and safe driving services for UNFPA staff, officials, and visitors, including airport pick-ups and drop-offs with necessary customs and visa assistance. This includes maintaining the vehicle in excellent running condition through regular checks, minor repairs, cleaning, and scheduling major servicing, while meticulously keeping daily logs and assisting with maintenance reports. The role also involves ensuring vehicle safety and custody, managing insurance and tax formalities, and acting as a local language translator when required. Additionally, the driver may guide new drivers, ensure training compliance, and assist with general administrative duties as requested by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Requires a valid driver's license and at least three years of experience as a driver for an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safe driving record. Must possess knowledge of driving rules, local road conditions, defensive driving skills, and basic vehicle repair capabilities.
