The Assistant Representative, reporting to the Representative, designs, develops, and manages an innovative country programme, leading the programme team to translate regional and country goals into tangible results. This role is crucial for advancing the ICPD agenda and achieving Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Job Purpose
The Assistant Representative contributes to managing UNFPA programme activities in population and development, reproductive health, youth empowerment, and gender equality. The role advances the ICPD policy agenda in a politically sensitive environment, responding to government priorities and promoting partnerships with government, multi-lateral agencies, and civil society. Key functions include coordinating technical advisors and contributing to UN system coordination through policy dialogue and joint initiatives. The Assistant Representative acts on behalf of the Representative as required, ensuring effective programme delivery and alignment with national needs.
Responsibilities
Conduct policy dialogue with government and partners to integrate UNFPA priorities into national plans and UN frameworks. Develop country-specific advocacy strategies with evidence-based messages, considering political and social sensitivities. Promote a results-based approach, integrating innovative policies into country programmes to ensure responsiveness to national needs. Facilitate programme results by coordinating inputs, monitoring, and evaluating consultants and experts. Promote knowledge sharing by documenting and integrating innovative strategies and best practices. Contribute to resource mobilization by identifying donors, preparing proposals, and supporting coordination of assistance.
Work Experience
Seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in development and population activities, including programme design, appraisal, and management. Demonstrated ability to align organizational objectives with national priorities, lead teams to achieve results, and foster high-level partnerships. Basic AI literacy and strong critical thinking skills for refining AI-generated content are highly desirable.
