Organizational Context

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the UN's sexual and reproductive health agency. This role is based in San Miguel, El Salvador, supporting the eastern region of the country. The Motorista Proyecto Cihuat reports to the Project Supervisor in the Eastern Region and collaborates with the Project Administrative Assistant, ensuring reliable and secure transportation services.

Job Purpose

The Motorista Proyecto Cihuat provides secure and timely transportation for UNFPA personnel and visitors, ensuring adherence to all UN security procedures and local traffic laws. This role is crucial for the efficient implementation of project activities, particularly in rural or hard-to-reach areas, by facilitating the transport of critical supplies and key personnel. Beyond driving, the position offers administrative and logistical support, contributing to the smooth operation of the office and the achievement of project objectives in the eastern region of El Salvador.

Responsibilities

The Motorista Proyecto Cihuat is responsible for safely transporting UNFPA and UN system personnel in official vehicles, ensuring punctuality and compliance with security protocols, including obtaining security clearances and reporting movements. The role involves strict adherence to national traffic regulations and promoting fuel efficiency. Daily maintenance of the assigned vehicle is essential, including checking fuel levels, performing minor repairs, coordinating major maintenance, and ensuring the vehicle is clean and in good working condition. The driver must maintain accurate travel logs, ensure all necessary vehicle documents and safety equipment are present and valid, and manage fuel voucher controls. Additionally, the position supports office logistics, including mail distribution, local purchases, document handling (filing, scanning, photocopying), and assisting with office and project activities such as managing audio-visual equipment and taking photographs.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant experience as a driver is required, preferably with international organizations, NGOs, embassies, or diplomatic entities. Experience within the UN System is advantageous. Familiarity with electronic navigation tools (e.g., Waze, Google Maps) and local traffic laws and road conditions, especially in the eastern region of El Salvador, is essential.

Skills

Key skills include safe and responsible driving, efficient logistical management, strong interpersonal relationships, collaboration, results orientation, and a commitment to excellence. Proficiency in Office Suite and Google Suite is desirable. The ability to perform minor vehicle repairs is also beneficial.
