Job Purpose
The Finance Associate is responsible for supporting the effective financial management of UNFPA's budget and programme activities. This involves providing quality support to ensure accurate and reliable financial data is available and reported in a timely manner, adhering to UNFPA guidelines. The role requires a client-oriented, results-focused approach to interpreting financial regulations, rules, and procedures, acting in an advisory capacity to programme and project personnel to maximize the impact of financial resources.
Responsibilities
The Finance Associate supports the monitoring of programme financial performance by providing analysis and detecting potential expenditure issues. Responsibilities include developing mechanisms for monitoring budgets, compiling financial data, and providing regular updates to various UNFPA offices. The role involves interpreting financial policies, offering guidance and training to staff and project personnel, and managing CO budgets through formulation, allotment control, and expenditure monitoring. Additionally, the Associate drafts donor financial reports, maintains financial recording and reporting systems, reviews payment requests for accuracy and compliance, and manages petty cash, VAT, and other accounts. The role also entails monitoring funds transferred to Implementing Partners, reviewing their internal controls, and assisting with audit recommendations and risk mitigation.
Work Experience
Six years of relevant experience in administration, finance, or office management is required. Proficiency in current office software applications, web-based management, and ERP financial systems is also necessary.
