Organizational Context
The Technical Coordinator is based in the UNFPA Gambia Country Office, reporting to the Country Representative. This role manages a European Union project in collaboration with UNOPS and Expertise France, ensuring timely and budget-aligned execution according to the project work plan and UNFPA's 2026-2029 Strategic Plan. UNFPA's mandate focuses on ensuring every pregnancy is intended, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled, aligning with the ICPD Programme of Action and SDGs.
Job Purpose
The Technical Coordinator, acting as Project Manager, will lead the UNFPA technical team to successfully achieve all wellbeing, gender, and community-related outputs for the project. This role is crucial for ensuring the effective delivery of project objectives through strong partnership networks. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the project, coordinating technical delivery, and ensuring alignment with strategic plans and donor requirements. The purpose is to drive impactful results in areas of comprehensive health education, re-entry programs for girls, and gender-sensitive teacher training.
Responsibilities
The role involves leading the day-to-day management and implementation of the project, coordinating the technical delivery of outputs such as Comprehensive Health Education, re-entry programs for girls, and gender-sensitive teacher training. The incumbent will oversee the integration of life skills and reproductive health education into the curriculum to prevent dropouts and act as the UNFPA focal point for key ministries to ensure national ownership. Responsibilities include managing community-level interventions, mentorship programs, identifying and mitigating operational risks, and serving as the UNFPA focal point in the Joint PMU, coordinating with UNOPS and Expertise France. The role also entails managing sub-grantee relationships, leveraging digital tools for community mobilization, and producing high-quality narrative and financial reports using app analytics and EMIS data.
Work Experience
At least five years of professional experience in managing complex development programs, preferably in education or adolescent health. Experience in results-based management, strategic thinking, and managing diverse stakeholder relationships is required.
