Organizational Context
The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to UNFPA staff, officials, and visitors, reporting to the Fleet Coordination/Dispatcher. UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. The role supports UNFPA's strategic plan to accelerate progress towards realizing the ICPD and SDGs.
Job Purpose
The Driver is responsible for providing secure, timely, and efficient transportation services for UNFPA personnel and visitors. This role requires upholding the highest standards of discretion, integrity, and responsibility. The incumbent must possess excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues, demonstrating a client-oriented approach with courtesy and tact. The ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds is essential for successful service delivery and maintaining positive relationships.
Responsibilities
The Driver is responsible for safe and efficient driving services, including transporting staff, officials, and visitors, and delivering/collecting mail and documents. This includes meeting personnel at transport hubs and assisting with formalities. The role also encompasses comprehensive vehicle maintenance, including minor repairs, scheduling major services, and ensuring vehicles are clean and in good working order. Accurate logbooks and maintenance records must be kept, along with ensuring all vehicle documentation is current. The Driver must adhere strictly to UNFPA safety regulations and procedures, maintain awareness of security and road risks, and provide administrative support for vehicle management as assigned.
Work Experience
A valid driver's license is required. Three years of experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a safe driving record is necessary. Knowledge of driving rules, local roads, defensive driving, and basic vehicle repair skills are also essential.
