Organizational Context

The UNESCO Regional Multisectoral Office for Central Africa, based in Yaoundé, supports member states in implementing Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) and transforming their education systems. It specifically aids in developing and implementing education and training policies, providing technical support for education management information systems, teacher professional development, ICT integration, and improving learning quality, equity, and inclusion. To ensure effective activity management, the office is recruiting a National Project Technical Assistant for Education.

Job Purpose

The National Project Technical Assistant for Education will provide essential technical support for the implementation of education projects and programs within the UNESCO Regional Multisectoral Office for Central Africa in Yaoundé. This role involves assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of project activities, ensuring alignment with partners and stakeholders. The position also requires supporting monitoring and evaluation processes, contributing to accurate reporting, and facilitating knowledge management and learning activities. The assistant will help in strengthening communication, visibility, and advocacy efforts for the projects, and will provide crucial support to the Education Sector of the Regional Office, contributing to the achievement of SDG4.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include supporting the planning, coordination, and implementation of projects by monitoring activities, preparing annual work plans, and developing terms of reference. The role involves assisting project managers in operational coordination and action plan execution, and participating in technical meetings with partners. The assistant will also support monitoring and evaluation by helping establish field activity mechanisms, participating in evaluations, and ensuring adherence to project timelines. Contribution to progress and periodic reports, and their entry into UNESCO systems, is essential. Furthermore, the role entails supporting knowledge management by updating systems, archiving documents, and assisting in the capitalization and dissemination of project outcomes. Strengthening communication and visibility involves contributing to communication strategies and producing visibility materials. Finally, the assistant will support the Education Sector's programs and projects, including resource mobilization efforts and other tasks aligned with the Sector's priorities.

Work Experience

A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in designing, implementing, and/or monitoring and evaluating education projects and programs is required. Demonstrated experience in knowledge management, documenting results, and preparing technical reports is also necessary. Experience with UN procedures or in a multicultural environment is desirable.

Skills

Strong knowledge of the education sector in Cameroon, particularly in project planning, implementation, and M&E. Proficiency in IT tools for information systems and MS Office Suite. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Capacity for regular field missions, including in challenging contexts. Familiarity with SDG4 and relevant national/international education strategies is beneficial.
