The UNESCO Regional Multisectoral Office in Yaoundé covers Central African countries, supporting member states in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 and transforming their education systems. The Education Sector specifically aids in policy and strategy development, technical support for education management information systems, teacher training, ICT integration, and improving learning quality, equity, and inclusion. This role is crucial for the effective implementation of the office's interventions.
Job Purpose
The Assistant Project Technical Officer (Education) will provide essential technical support for the planning, coordination, and implementation of education projects and programs within the UNESCO Regional Multisectoral Office in Yaoundé. This role involves monitoring project activities, collaborating with partners, preparing work plans and terms of reference, and ensuring the operational coordination of interventions. The position is key to supporting the Education Sector's objectives in Central Africa, contributing to the transformation of education systems and the achievement of SDG 4.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Project Technical Officer (Education) will support project planning, coordination, and implementation by monitoring activities, collaborating with stakeholders, and preparing work plans and terms of reference. They will assist project managers in operational coordination and action plan execution, and oversee contract execution with partners. The role includes supporting monitoring and evaluation, ensuring field activities are implemented effectively, and contributing to progress reports for UNESCO's reporting systems. Additionally, the officer will support the Education Sector's programs and projects, particularly in teacher training, basic and secondary education, curriculum development, and educational technology integration. This involves contributing to work plans, technical reports, and strategic documents, as well as knowledge sharing and communication activities. The role also entails supporting resource mobilization through concept note development and executing other tasks as assigned to support the Education Sector's priorities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in designing, implementing, and/or monitoring and evaluating education projects and programs is necessary. Experience with UN system procedures or in a multicultural environment is desirable. Proven experience with SDG 4 related education issues and knowledge of African educational contexts, particularly Cameroon's, are beneficial.
Skills
Proficiency in IT tools, including MS Office Suite, is essential. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. The ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and undertake regular missions, including in challenging contexts, is important. Fluency in French and/or English is necessary, with good knowledge of the other language being an asset.
