Organizational Context

The UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago, serving Latin America and the Caribbean, focuses on interdisciplinary and intersectoral approaches to address regional challenges. It fosters collaboration across UNESCO sectors to develop integrated solutions that enhance resilience, inclusion, intercultural dialogue, and sustainable societies. As UNESCO's representation in Chile, it supports the government and partners in designing and implementing initiatives that link Culture and Science sectors, recognizing the need for integrated responses to climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, indigenous knowledge, science engagement, innovation, social inclusion, and peace.

Job Purpose

Under the authority of the Director of the Office and the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist for Culture, in coordination with the Programme Specialist for Science, the consultant will provide technical and management support for the implementation of intersectoral initiatives jointly developed by both sectors. This consultancy will contribute to the planning, coordination, production, monitoring, and follow-up of activities and projects. It will also involve articulation with public institutions, academia, civil society organizations, and other strategic partners, ensuring the achievement of the Office's work plan objectives. The role is crucial for advancing integrated approaches to sustainable development, cultural heritage, scientific understanding, and societal resilience within the region.

Responsibilities

Support the planning, coordination, implementation, and follow-up of intersectoral initiatives and projects developed by the Culture and Science Sectors of UNESCO Santiago. Provide technical, logistical, and administrative coordination for seminars, workshops, technical meetings, consultations, missions, and campaigns. Monitor initiatives related to indigenous and local knowledge for climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, community resilience, and sustainable territorial management. Facilitate activities aimed at strengthening intercultural dialogue, social inclusion, participation of indigenous peoples and local communities, cultural diversity, and peacebuilding. Contribute to initiatives promoting creativity and culture as tools for social appropriation of science, education, public awareness, and sustainable development. Develop work plans, timelines, monitoring matrices, minutes, technical reports, and other necessary management documents. Support technical and administrative project monitoring, including activities, timelines, indicators, budgets, and deliverables. Coordinate and communicate with ministries, public institutions, universities, research centers, indigenous peoples' organizations, civil society, and international bodies. Assist in preparing technical and programmatic reports for UNESCO Santiago and Headquarters, contributing to information systematization for results monitoring. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Experience

Demonstrated experience in managing, coordinating, or implementing international cooperation projects. Experience in organizing and producing meetings, seminars, workshops, and institutional events. Experience in monitoring, follow-up, and administrative support for projects.

Skills

Knowledge of interdisciplinary approaches in culture, science, and sustainable development. Experience in areas such as indigenous and local knowledge, climate change, disaster risk reduction, intercultural dialogue, social inclusion, peace culture, or social appropriation of science. Excellent writing and reporting skills for technical and management documents. Ability to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams. Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills. Fluency in Spanish; proficiency in English is an asset.
