Organizational Context
The UNESCO Sudan office is implementing a project focused on strengthening youth resilience and employability through skills development and community engagement. A key component involves integrating Media and Information Literacy (MIL) and Countering Hate Speech into capacity-building activities. This initiative aims to equip youth with the knowledge and skills to identify, prevent, and respond to hate speech and misinformation, fostering critical thinking and responsible digital citizenship.
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this consultancy is to design, develop, and facilitate a comprehensive Arabic-language training course on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) and Countering Hate Speech. The expert will ensure participants acquire both theoretical understanding and practical skills through interactive methodologies, including discussions, group work, and the UNESCO Facticity board game. The role involves creating a detailed syllabus, training agenda, participant handbook, presentation materials, interactive exercises, and assessment tools. The facilitator will deliver 10 training sessions to 250 youth, focusing on key MIL concepts, hate speech, misinformation, and responsible online engagement, culminating in a comprehensive assessment report.
Responsibilities
The consultant will design a complete Arabic-language training syllabus covering Media and Information Literacy (MIL), understanding hate speech, recognizing misinformation, responsible online engagement, and youth-led approaches to countering hate speech. This includes developing a training agenda, session plans, participant handbook, presentation materials, interactive exercises, assessment tools, and pre/post-training questionnaires. The consultant will facilitate 10 interactive training sessions for 250 youth, incorporating lectures, the UNESCO Facticity Board Game, guided discussions, and reflection exercises. Responsibilities also include designing participant assessment tools, collecting and analyzing feedback, documenting learning outcomes, and producing a comprehensive report detailing knowledge gained, participant feedback, lessons learned, challenges, and recommendations for future implementation.
Work Experience
Proven expertise is required in Media and Information Literacy (MIL), Countering Hate Speech, digital literacy, and youth engagement. Experience in facilitating participatory learning methodologies and familiarity with UNESCO's MIL framework are also necessary. Excellent facilitation skills are a key requirement for this role.
