Local and National Media Consultant
Organizational Context
The International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy, seeks a consultant to enhance the strategic dissemination of public information. This role involves releasing scientifically accurate information to local and national media through press releases and press conferences, highlighting major events and achievements at ICTP. The consultant will work partially on-site and partially remotely.
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this consultancy is to significantly increase the visibility of ICTP's research and educational activities within local and national media outlets in Italy. The consultant will be responsible for cultivating and improving relationships with local and national journalists, ensuring that ICTP's scientific advancements and key events receive appropriate media coverage. This role is crucial for strengthening ICTP's public profile and fostering a better understanding of its contributions to science. The work will be performed under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer.
Responsibilities
The consultant is expected to achieve increased visibility for ICTP's research and education initiatives across Italian local and national media platforms, alongside fostering improved relationships with journalists. Key activities include drafting and distributing press releases in Italian to relevant media contacts, and proactively building and maintaining media partnerships. The consultant's performance will be assessed based on the timely issuance of press releases, the volume of media inquiries received by ICTP, and the quantity of news stories published or broadcast by local and national media outlets featuring ICTP's work. This role requires a proactive approach to media engagement and content creation.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in public information and communications, with a specific focus on science dissemination, is necessary. The candidate must possess in-depth knowledge of the Italian media landscape, particularly in science journalism, including established contacts with journalists, editors, and broadcast directors.
Skills
Essential skills include strong communication abilities, accountability, innovation, knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, planning and organizing, a results-focused approach, and teamwork. Proficiency in both English and Italian, with excellent written Italian, is also required.
