Organizational Context
The UNESCO Regional Multisectoral Office for West Africa (Sahel) in Dakar represents UNESCO in fifteen West African countries. It covers all of UNESCO's fields of competence: education, sciences, culture, and communication and information. The Office also coordinates programs and projects involving other UNESCO regional offices in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the communication strategy of the UNESCO Regional Multisectoral Office for West Africa (Sahel). The intern will be responsible for regularly updating social media, particularly the office's Instagram account. They will also contribute to enhancing the office's presence and visibility by producing various content, including articles, photos, videos, infographics, and animations. Furthermore, the intern will assist in the multimedia coverage of events and the editing of both print and audiovisual materials, such as annual reports and thematic documents. A key aspect of this role involves supporting media relations, organizing press conferences, and drafting press releases and media reviews.
Responsibilities
Participate in the implementation of the Office's communication strategy. Ensure the regular update of social media platforms, with a specific focus on the UNESCO Regional Office's Instagram account. Support the visibility of the UNESCO Regional Office through the production of diverse content, including articles, photos, videos, infographics, and animations. Assist in the multimedia coverage of events in which the Office is involved. Undertake the editing (assembly, layout) of the Office's print and audiovisual support materials, including annual reports, thematic documents, and all related print, video, or multimedia assets. Contribute to strengthening media relations, organizing press conferences, drafting press releases, and compiling press reviews.
Work Experience
Experience with civil society, multilateral agencies, or international non-governmental organizations is advantageous. Familiarity with traditional media and new digital communication tools is expected. Proficiency in communication production software such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, or Canva is necessary.
Skills
Excellent written French communication skills. Practical knowledge of English. Understanding and mastery of traditional media and new digital communication tools. Proficiency in graphic design and video editing software (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, Canva).
