Job Purpose
The Senior Communication Consultant will be responsible for the communication and advocacy activities of the Health Education Cluster at the UNESCO Dakar office, under the "Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future" (O3) program. The primary goal is to enhance the visibility of program achievements, showcase best practices, strengthen partner engagement, and support the institutionalization of health and well-being education within educational systems. This involves developing and implementing strategic communication and advocacy plans to position UNESCO as a key player in health education and to mobilize stakeholders around regional priorities for educated, healthy, and fulfilled adolescents and youth.
Responsibilities
Implement, monitor, and update the regional communication and advocacy strategy for the Health Education Cluster to strengthen UNESCO's position in health and well-being education. Develop and lead communication and advocacy campaigns to promote engagement for educated, healthy, and fulfilled adolescents and youth in West and Central Africa, mobilizing stakeholders around regional priorities. Oversee the production of all cluster communication materials, ensuring technical, editorial, and graphic quality. Coordinate external service providers for translation, graphic design, audiovisual production, web development, social media management, and layout, managing the validation process. Develop and implement visibility strategies for key regional events, publications, and initiatives, ensuring optimal media and digital coverage. Enhance documentation, capitalization, and dissemination of knowledge generated by the O3 Program to support learning, advocacy, and scaling of interventions. Provide strategic support for the institutional communication activities of the UNESCO Regional Office in Dakar as needed.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of relevant professional experience in communication, with at least five years at the international level. Experience collaborating with civil society, multilateral agencies, and international NGOs is required. Experience in designing and implementing communication interventions for social and behavioral change to improve sexual and reproductive health and educational outcomes for adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa is desirable.
Skills
Excellent writing skills. Knowledge of education, sexual and reproductive health, or gender-based violence. Understanding of traditional and new media. Experience with website management or publication design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Drupal, Google Analytics). Partnership and coordination skills with diverse stakeholders, including ministries, co-sponsors, donors, and civil society. Fluency in French (oral and written) and good knowledge of English.
