Organizational Context

Job Purpose
The Chauffeur will operate under the authority of the UNESCO Antenna Coordinator in Chad and the direct supervision of the Operations Officer. The primary purpose of this role is to provide safe and reliable transportation for UNESCO personnel, official visitors, and goods. This includes driving to various locations, including field assignments, ensuring adherence to UN safety standards and national traffic regulations. The Chauffeur will also assist with airport arrivals and departures, manage vehicle documentation, perform minor repairs, and maintain the vehicle's cleanliness and operational readiness. Accurate record-keeping of fuel consumption and mileage is essential. The role also involves transporting official mail and packages, contributing to the overall logistical support of UNESCO's operations in Chad.
Responsibilities
The Chauffeur is responsible for safely transporting UNESCO staff and official visitors, both within N'Djamena and for field missions, adhering strictly to UN safety standards and local traffic laws. This includes ensuring timely arrivals and departures according to program schedules. The role involves the secure and timely delivery of project-related goods and services. The Chauffeur must operate the vehicle in accordance with technical standards and organizational procedures, maintaining all vehicle documents and ensuring their validity. Responsibilities extend to welcoming and assisting official visitors at the airport with immigration formalities. The Chauffeur will also address minor technical issues, report significant repair needs, and maintain the vehicle's cleanliness. Daily logging of fuel consumption, mileage, and maintenance information is required. Additionally, the Chauffeur will prepare the vehicle for missions, including necessary supplies, and assist with loading and unloading. Transporting official mail, pouches, and packages, including airport collections and postal services, is a key duty. The Chauffeur may also be required to drive senior officials and conference participants. In the event of an accident, a detailed report must be submitted within 48 hours. The role may include other duties to support team success.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional driving experience is required. An impeccable driving record is mandatory. Previous experience within the UN system is considered an asset.
