Under the overall guidance of the Head of Office and UNESCO Representative to Sudan, and in coordination with the Regional Security Officer, the Field Security Assistant supports the implementation of security operations. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of UNESCO personnel within the Sudan office, contributing to the organization's operational integrity in a challenging environment.
Job Purpose
The Field Security Assistant is responsible for supporting the Head of Office and UNESCO Representative to Sudan in all matters related to the safety and security of UNESCO personnel and operations. This includes assisting in the implementation of security plans, coordinating with various security agencies, assessing the security situation, and providing advice on security measures. The role is vital for maintaining a secure working environment, enabling the effective delivery of UNESCO's mandate in Sudan. The assistant will also contribute to emergency preparedness and response, ensuring the safety of staff and assets.
Responsibilities
The Field Security Assistant will liaise and coordinate with UNDSS, other UN agencies, and local government security organizations. Responsibilities include assisting in maintaining the Security Plan, updating staff lists, and monitoring the implementation of Security Risk Management measures. The role involves assessing the security situation at the duty station and providing timely updates. Additionally, the assistant will help identify emergency communication equipment needs, conduct security evaluations for UNESCO staff residences and offices, and organize security awareness training. Support will be provided during the implementation of the Security Plan, maintenance of correspondence files, and follow-up on office access control. The assistant will also maintain a database of security incidents, assist in investigations, and support responses to emergencies involving UNESCO operations, staff, and assets. Record-keeping for ID cards and other assigned security tasks are also part of the role.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in security, preferably within military, police, or related fields. Prior experience within the United Nations system is highly desirable. Field Security Associate (FSA) certification is strongly preferred and considered an asset.
Skills
Proficiency in communication, accountability, innovation, knowledge sharing, planning, organizing, results focus, and teamwork are essential. Solid computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint are required. Ability to travel and physical fitness are also necessary.
