Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide essential programme, coordination, communication, and technical support for the UNESCO Regional Office for the Pacific States, specifically for the implementation of culture sector activities and related intersectoral initiatives. The role involves supporting programme coordination, partnership development, and communication efforts with Member States and various stakeholders across the Pacific. Additionally, the consultant will offer cross-sectoral support, particularly at the intersection of culture and education, including heritage education and capacity development. A key aspect of the role is to enhance the Office's communication, visibility, and outreach through the creation of digital content, social media posts, and other materials to increase awareness and engagement with UNESCO's work in the region.
Responsibilities
The Consultant will support the planning, implementation, coordination, communication, monitoring, and reporting of UNESCO Culture Sector programmes and projects, as well as intersectoral initiatives. Key duties include providing programme and technical support for project implementation, monitoring, and reporting across the Pacific. This involves contributing to project documents, concept notes, and progress reports, and assisting with activities related to heritage, cultural policies, and diversity of cultural expressions. The role also entails supporting the organization of workshops, consultations, and training activities. Furthermore, the Consultant will engage in coordination and partnership activities, supporting engagement with National Commissions, government ministries, development partners, and regional organizations. This includes providing support for UNESCO's participation in UN Country Teams and preparing meeting summaries. Intersectoral support involves contributing to joint programming and initiatives at the intersection of culture and education. Communication and outreach responsibilities include developing and implementing communication plans, preparing website articles, social media content, and other visibility materials to highlight UNESCO's cultural work in the Pacific.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience is required in culture, heritage, international development, programme management, education, or communications. Experience working with government institutions, international organizations, development partners, or regional organizations is essential. Proven experience in project implementation, coordination, and stakeholder engagement is also necessary, along with experience in preparing technical reports and communication materials.
Skills
Proficiency in UNESCO's culture-related instruments and programmes, with an understanding of intersectoral approaches and partnership development, is crucial. Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills are required, along with the ability to coordinate effectively in a multicultural environment. Excellent organizational and project management skills are essential. Experience in digital communications, website content development, and social media outreach is desirable. The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently to meet deadlines is also important.
