The UNESCO Almaty Office is seeking a Project Communication Assistant to support two key projects: the Adaptation Fund-funded GLOFCA project and the GEF-funded Cryosphere project. The role operates under the authority of the Director of the Almaty Office and the supervision of project managers.
Job Purpose
The Project Communication Assistant will be instrumental in executing communication strategies for the GLOFCA and GEF-UNDP-UNESCO Cryosphere projects. This involves promoting effective communication with both internal and external audiences, adhering to UNESCO, GEF, and AF guidelines. The role will design and plan promotional materials, identify and engage media partners, and oversee the production of regular newsletters. A key responsibility is maintaining and enhancing project websites with engaging content, including news, human stories, and articles. The assistant will also develop and implement social media strategies, create short videos, and coordinate knowledge management to ensure project results are effectively communicated to the public.
Responsibilities
The Project Communication Assistant will execute communication strategies for two major UNESCO projects, ensuring effective outreach to diverse audiences. Key duties include designing and reviewing terms of reference for promotional activities, identifying and cultivating media partnerships, and managing the publication of bi-monthly newsletters. The role involves maintaining and updating project websites with relevant content, such as news items and success stories, and proposing improvements for website development. Additionally, the assistant will develop and implement social media strategies, create and edit short videos, and capture field footage and photographs. Coordination of knowledge management is crucial, involving the preparation of publications, knowledge products, and user-friendly reports. This includes writing and disseminating social media content, developing concepts for various publication materials, overseeing communication aspects at project events, and managing project knowledge for accessibility and consistency.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in communication, information, public advocacy, marketing, PR, website development, or social media is necessary. Experience in environmental or natural sciences communication is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in communication, negotiation, networking, organization, and coordination is essential. The ability to work effectively in a multicultural team, take initiative, and manage priorities under pressure is required. Strong ICT skills, including MS Office, CorelDraw, Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, and WordPress, are necessary. Excellent written and spoken English and Russian are mandatory.
