The UNESCO Sciences Sector (SCS) is seeking a Communications Consultant to support its communication strategy. Job Purpose
The Communications Consultant will play a crucial role in implementing the Sciences Sector's communication strategy. This involves supporting sector-wide actions and enhancing the visibility and engagement of several key programmes: Bioethics and Ethics of Science and Technology; Management of Social Transformations and Foresight; Inclusion, Rights and Intercultural Dialogue; and Youth Coordination. The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Executive Office, ensuring alignment with UNESCO's communication guidelines and institutional priorities. This position is vital for effectively communicating the sector's initiatives and fostering stronger stakeholder relationships.
Responsibilities
The Communications Consultant will coordinate the Sector's events and priorities, ensuring timely communication planning and follow-up for major events. This includes updating the UNESCO Calendar of Events and contributing to the CPE Trello Board. The role involves supporting the planning, development, and implementation of communication for events, initiatives, and International Days. The consultant will draft and prepare online communication materials such as flyers, web stories, and visual assets, and coordinate their editing, translation, and online publication. Maintaining and updating web content in coordination with programme teams and communication services is also a key responsibility. Furthermore, the consultant will consolidate and quality-control briefing materials for senior officials, ensuring accuracy and alignment with institutional priorities. Event support, including liaison with organizing teams and documentation, is required. A specific task includes designing a pamphlet on the collaboration between La Caixa Foundation and UNESCO MOST. The consultant must perform duties with care, professionalism, and diligence.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in communications, print media, digital and social media, public relations, or a similar field is necessary for this position.
Skills
Essential skills include excellent oral and written communication, strong drafting and reporting abilities, and accuracy in document production. Interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and familiarity with communication for development tools are important. The ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and strong computer literacy are also required. Self-motivation and the capacity to work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision are crucial.
