Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to strengthen the Khortytsia National Reserve's team by recruiting students to assist with restoration and conservation work on rescued cultural heritage objects. The initiative is part of a UNESCO project funded by Sweden, focusing on emergency measures at the Reserve. The role will involve hands-on experience in safeguarding artefacts affected by changes in the Dnipro River's water level and items from the museum's permanent collection. This work is crucial for the long-term preservation and accessibility of cultural heritage for future generations and research.
Responsibilities
The consultant will undertake tasks related to the conservation and restoration of museum collections, following the instructions of the Reserve's staff. This includes direct participation in the stabilization and preliminary conservation of archaeological objects under field conditions during hydroarchaeological investigations. The role involves assisting in the conservation and stabilization of a medieval monoxyl boat and other ancient wooden navigation vessels. Additionally, the consultant will be involved in the restoration of metal archaeological artifacts and will carry out work within the Restoration Department to ensure proper preservation conditions for cultural heritage objects, particularly watercraft-related monuments, in preparation for relocation and evacuation.
Work Experience
Previous collaboration with the Khortytsia National Reserve is considered an advantage for this role.
