Organizational Context
The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) focuses on building scientific capacity in developing nations to address global challenges and promote sustainable futures. TWAS collaborates with the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). This role supports IAP activities, enhancing communication for its programmes, networks, meetings, and key outputs, ensuring broad dissemination and visibility.
Job Purpose
The Digital Outreach Assistant will support the implementation of communication activities for projects and initiatives aligned with TWAS and IAP strategic plans. This includes managing social media channels, preparing and disseminating communication outputs for IAP, and providing communication support for meetings, workshops, and events. The role involves producing multimedia and graphic content, maintaining and improving websites, and streamlining communication processes. The incumbent will contribute to the overall communications function within the TWAS Public Information Unit, serving both TWAS and IAP, and supporting donor-funded activities and broader Secretariat communication needs.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer, the incumbent will draft, edit, and adapt short-form digital content, including social media posts, captions, and newsletter blurbs. Responsibilities include managing social media channels and monitoring their performance. The role involves supporting the preparation and dissemination of IAP communication outputs and providing communication assistance for IAP meetings, workshops, and events. Additionally, the incumbent will handle the technical and graphic production of newsletters, create visual content such as basic video editing and graphic design, and support web and digital platforms through updates and basic development tasks. Maintaining digital assets, contact databases, archives, and basic analytics, including organizing photo/video archives and supporting Google Analytics, is also a key responsibility.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant experience in public information, communications production, or website management is required. Experience in an international or multicultural setting is advantageous.
Skills
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential. Strong experience with graphic design and editing software, HTML, Content Management Systems, Google Analytics, and website management is required. Excellent writing, editing, content production, and online information dissemination skills are necessary. Strong planning, organizational skills, attention to detail, initiative, innovation, results focus, and teamwork are also important.
