The UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen supports Member States and key education partners in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 4. UNESCO assists Ministries of Education and stakeholders in strengthening education systems, enhancing evidence-based planning, and promoting inclusive, equitable, and quality education. The office also supports Education in Emergencies (EiE) interventions, including sector coordination, planning, and capacity-building, particularly in Yemen.
Job Purpose
The Education Project Manager will lead and coordinate the implementation of the "Strengthening Education System Capacity and Coordination in Yemen" programme, funded by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) System Capacity Grant. This role involves overseeing project activities, ensuring smooth implementation through collaboration with the Ministry of Education, UNESCO teams, consultants, and partners. The position requires monitoring progress, identifying challenges, and supporting timely follow-up actions to achieve project objectives and contribute to the strengthening of Yemen's education system governance, coordination, and reporting mechanisms.
Responsibilities
Coordinate the planning and implementation of project activities, workplans, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring close collaboration with the Ministry of Education, UNESCO teams, consultants, and partners. Organize and follow up on meetings, workshops, and consultations, while monitoring progress and addressing implementation challenges. Support UNESCO's coordination with the Local Education Group (LEG), Development Partners Group (DPG), Ministry of Education, donors, and UN agencies, promoting communication and alignment. Monitor project progress, results, and reporting requirements, preparing consolidated progress reports, donor reports, and technical updates. Support internal coordination within UNESCO, review project documents, and assist with administrative and logistical follow-up. Contribute to Education in Emergencies (EiE) activities and knowledge-sharing initiatives, preparing relevant materials and liaising with stakeholders. Undertake missions as required to support project activities and coordination processes.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in education programmes, Education in Emergencies (EiE), sector coordination, project coordination, or international development. At least 2 years of international or regional professional experience is required, with experience in education programmes in Arab countries being advantageous.
Skills
Strong project coordination, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and implementation processes. Proficient in drafting, reporting, analysis, and problem-solving. Knowledge of project management, monitoring, and reporting processes. Familiarity with education sector coordination mechanisms like LEGs and DPGs. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
