UNESCO, in collaboration with Spanish and European Union cooperation, is implementing projects focused on Indigenous Knowledge and Nature-Based Solutions in Central American Biosphere Reserves. These initiatives aim to integrate indigenous knowledge into climate change governance and management, enhancing environmental resilience in reserves like Río Plátano (Honduras), Agua y Paz (Costa Rica), and La Amistad (Panama). Additionally, a project supported by KfW is strengthening the governance of the Trifinio Fraternidad Transboundary Biosphere Reserve.
Job Purpose
This consultancy focuses on the logistical and organizational aspects of a regional seminar on Indigenous Knowledge and Biosphere Reserves. The seminar, scheduled for November 4-6, 2026, in Copán Ruinas, Honduras, aims to promote the knowledge and culture of the Maya Ch'orti' people, with contributions from Miskita and Naso experts. The consultant will be responsible for coordinating invited participants, ensuring smooth event execution, and contributing to the overall success of this initiative, which is part of broader efforts to recognize and integrate indigenous knowledge into environmental management and climate change adaptation strategies within Central America.
Responsibilities
The consultant will manage all logistical aspects for the "Indigenous Knowledge Management in Central American Biosphere Reserves" seminar. Key responsibilities include attending coordination meetings with the organizing committee (UNESCO and Plan Trifinio Committee), creating and managing the guest list according to specified distribution percentages, and assisting in the development and tracking of the symposium agenda. The role involves preparing and sending invitations, meticulously controlling the list of attendees throughout the event, and guiding participants to various activities and dining areas. Additionally, the consultant will oversee audiovisual services, compile event documentation including photographs and a final report, and support guided tours. Regular progress updates to the organizing committee are required, along with performing other related event functions. The contract duration is four months, with specific deliverables including a work plan, preliminary and final guest lists, draft and sent invitations, and the final event report with participant annexes and photographs.
Work Experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience in event organization. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with the Trifinio region or the Trifinio Fraternidad Transboundary Biosphere Reserve is advantageous; prior experience organizing similar events in the area is a plus.
