Organizational Context
As part of the Chadian School Refoundation Project (PRET), UNESCO supports the Ministry of Education in its efforts to strengthen the quality of teaching, particularly through the improvement of initial and continuous teacher training systems. The project's main objectives are to strengthen teachers' pedagogical skills, improve initial and continuous training systems, promote innovative and inclusive pedagogical approaches, and support the effective implementation of national educational reforms.
Job Purpose
The Project Assistant's core purpose is to provide essential technical and operational support to the Teacher Training Specialist, ensuring the effective and efficient implementation of activities under the Chadian School Refoundation Project (PRET). This role is critical for strengthening the quality of teaching by improving initial and continuous teacher training systems. The Assistant will directly contribute to enhancing teachers' pedagogical skills, refining training programs, and promoting innovative, inclusive pedagogical approaches. By supporting the effective implementation of national educational reforms, the incumbent will play a key part in achieving the project's overarching goals to elevate education standards in Chad, working under the general authority of the Regional Director and direct supervision of the Antenna Head and Senior Project Coordinator.
Responsibilities
Under the general authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Central Africa in Yaoundé and the direct supervision of the Head of the UNESCO Antenna in N'Djamena and the Senior Project Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for: Participating in the analysis of teacher training needs, contributing to technical-pedagogical diagnostics, data collection on the ground, and identifying skill gaps, in line with national priorities and the orientations of the Chadian School Refoundation Project (PRET); Supporting the development and adaptation of training plans, modules, and pedagogical materials, ensuring their alignment with national frameworks, innovative and inclusive pedagogical approaches, and UNESCO's technical standards; Contributing to the logistical and technical organization of training activities, including session planning, preparation of pedagogical tools, coordination with trainers and involved ministries, and support for the implementation of training mechanisms on the ground; Ensuring technical monitoring of field training, supporting quality control of interventions, beneficiary participation, and conformity of training sessions with set objectives; Collecting, processing, and analyzing monitoring-evaluation data related to the implementation of training activities, including participation, learner achievements, and results obtained, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders; Contributing to the drafting of technical reports, summary notes, and capitalization documents, highlighting results, good practices, lessons learned, and recommendations for continuous improvement of training actions; Supporting project documentation management, including archiving and structuring technical, pedagogical, and administrative documents related to initial and continuous teacher training activities; Performing all other tasks within their competence to achieve the Office's objectives.
Work Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in the education sector. Proven experience in initial and/or continuous teacher training, pedagogical support, or the implementation of educational projects. Demonstrated experience in resource mobilization and partnership building. Experience working with programs or projects supported by international organizations is an asset. Very good knowledge of African educational contexts in general and the Chadian educational system in particular.
Skills
Proficiency in innovative pedagogical approaches and didactic methods. Strong understanding of Chad's education sector, including planning, implementation, and monitoring-evaluation of projects, and familiarity with the Sectoral Education Plan 2022-2030, SDG4 - Education 2030 Agenda, and AU Strategy 2063. Excellent analytical, synthesis, and technical writing skills. Strong communication, teamwork, and coordination abilities. Proficient in MS Office Suite. Capable of working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and undertaking missions in challenging environments. Fluency in French is required.
