Organizational Context
Under the guidance of the Head of Office and UNESCO Representative to Sudan, and in coordination with the Regional Security Officer, the Field Security Assistant supports the implementation of security operations. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of UNESCO personnel within the Sudan office, contributing to the organization's operational integrity in a challenging environment.
Job Purpose
The Field Security Assistant is responsible for supporting the Head of Office and UNESCO Representative to Sudan in all aspects of safety and security for UNESCO personnel. This includes liaising with UNDSS, UN agencies, and local government security organizations, as well as maintaining the Security Plan and updating staff lists. The role involves assessing the security situation, advising on security measures for staff residences and offices, and assisting in organizing security awareness training. The incumbent will also support field missions, manage security incident databases, conduct investigations, and respond to emergencies, ensuring the continuity of UNESCO operations and the protection of its staff and assets.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include liaising and coordinating with UNDSS, other UN agencies, and local government security organizations. The Field Security Assistant will assist in maintaining the Security Plan, including updating staff lists, and support the implementation of Security Risk Management measures. This role involves assessing the security situation at the duty station and providing regular updates. The assistant will also identify emergency communications equipment needs, conduct security evaluations for staff residences and offices, and help organize security awareness training. Furthermore, responsibilities encompass supporting field missions, maintaining a database of security incidents, conducting investigations, and responding to emergencies to ensure the safety of UNESCO personnel and assets. Other assigned security tasks are also part of the role.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in security, preferably within military, police, or a related field, is required. Prior experience within the United Nations system is highly desirable. Field Security Associate (FSA) certification is strongly preferred and considered an asset.
