Organizational Context
The Communication and Information Sector (CI) at UNESCO promotes freedom of expression, media development, and knowledge societies by fostering universal access to information and preserving documentary heritage. This role supports CI's work on Open Educational Resources (OER) within the Universal Access to Information and Digital Inclusion Section, aligning with UNESCO's Major Programme V.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide crucial assistance to UNESCO's Communication and Information Sector, specifically within the Universal Access to Information and Digital Inclusion Section, focusing on Open Educational Resources (OER). The consultant will support capacity-building and policy initiatives related to the 2019 Recommendation on OER. Key activities include organizing regional information meetings, developing and launching communication materials, creating capacity-building toolkits, and generating awareness content. The role also involves strengthening international collaboration through the IGF/UNESCO OER Dynamic Coalition and supporting overall program implementation, including drafting various project-related documents and ensuring the visibility of activities.
Responsibilities
Support UNESCO's capacity-building and policy initiatives for the 2019 Recommendation on OER by organizing at least five regional information meetings, preparing and launching communication materials with partners, and developing comprehensive capacity-building toolkits. Assist in conceptualizing and coordinating awareness-raising content, including human interest stories and case studies on Open Solutions. Provide follow-up support for communication projects, ensuring quality control of contracted deliverables. Strengthen international collaboration through the IGF/UNESCO OER Dynamic Coalition by organizing training sessions and supporting online collaborative activities. Undertake other duties as assigned, including drafting and editing information materials, concept notes, speeches, and project proposals. Ensure visibility of activities through articles, newsletters, and awareness campaigns.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience at the international level in education, communication, information, or a related field is necessary. Experience in communicating project implementation actions and results in a multilingual context is also required.
Skills
Excellent communication and writing skills are essential. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize issues, analyze data, and synthesize information is required. Skills in implementing communication and publication strategies, effective advocacy, and strong coordination and negotiation abilities are important. Proficiency in graphic design, publication design, multimedia product development, and web content is also beneficial.
