Organizational Context
UNESCO's Diversity of Cultural Expressions Entity champions the diversity of cultural expressions and the creative economy as drivers of sustainable development. It is dedicated to ensuring the effective implementation and monitoring of the 2005 Convention and the 1980 Recommendation. The Entity facilitates international cooperation by assisting governments globally in policy design, monitoring, and evaluation, and supports the decision-making of governing bodies through knowledge sharing and data analysis. Gender equality is a key priority, with initiatives focused on addressing barriers for women in cultural sectors and promoting their participation.
Job Purpose
The consultant will support the Diversity of Cultural Expressions Entity in its mission to promote cultural diversity and the creative economy. This involves coordinating and implementing projects funded by the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO, ensuring their timely execution and effective monitoring. The role requires contributing to the visibility and communication of project activities and results, and liaising with relevant UNESCO services and partners. Additionally, the consultant will manage knowledge on gender equality within the framework of the 2005 Convention, by consolidating and analyzing project data, lessons learned, and best practices. This will inform recommendations for mainstreaming gender equality in operational projects and contribute to developing resources for gender-responsive cultural policies and programs.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and oversee the implementation of four projects funded by the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO, ensuring timely execution and effective monitoring in collaboration with UNESCO Field Offices and implementing partners. Prepare progress reports, develop monitoring tools, and create communication materials to enhance project visibility and disseminate results. Liaise with internal UNESCO services and external partners to facilitate project operations. Consolidate and analyze information, data, lessons learned, and best practices from gender equality projects within the cultural and creative sectors. Develop recommendations for integrating gender equality into the Entity's operational projects, informed by research and the 'Reshaping policies for Creativity' report. Draft a concept note for a thematic webpage on gender equality in cultural and creative sectors, contributing to the documentation and dissemination of evidence and experiences related to this crucial area.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of professional experience in the cultural field, with at least three years at the international level, is necessary. Experience with the 2005 Convention and within the United Nations system is also required.
Skills
Strong expertise in coordinating multilateral cooperation projects and significant experience with gender equality in cultural and creative industries. Ability to synthesize and analyze information from diverse sources, formulate research documents, and interact effectively with various stakeholders. Proficiency in IT and the capacity to work independently in a multicultural environment are essential.
