Job Purpose
The Associate Project Officer- Statistics will be responsible for the statistical analysis of research data under the direct supervision of the Senior Project Officer. The incumbent will also support the development of research tools and instruments, write code in statistical packages like R and Python for automated data analysis, and conduct psychometric analysis of study instruments using methods such as CTT and IRT. Additionally, the role entails performing statistical data analysis for various projects in alignment with research designs, supporting data collection through primary and secondary methods, and providing coordination for assessment studies. The position requires writing and presenting technical and analytical reports, contributing to programme design and evaluation, and supporting institute-wide activities.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include creating and managing database structures for efficient data storage and retrieval for analysis. Developing comprehensive sampling plans and accurately calculating sample sizes based on study scope are crucial. The role involves supporting the design and development of appropriate research tools and instruments. A significant part of the job is writing and implementing code in statistical packages such as R and Python to automate data analysis processes. Conducting psychometric analysis of study instruments using methodologies like Classical Test Theory (CTT) and Item Response Theory (IRT) is also required. Performing detailed statistical data analysis for diverse projects, ensuring alignment with established research designs, is essential. Supporting data collection efforts through both primary and secondary methods will be undertaken. The position requires providing programmatic coordination and support for the implementation of assessment studies. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for writing and presenting clear, concise technical and analytical reports. Contributing to other tasks related to programme design and evaluation, and supporting any other institute-wide activities as needed are also part of the role. The Associate Project Officer will carry out any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Up to two years of professional experience in statistical data analysis, psychometrics, sampling, and report writing within the fields of education or social sciences is required. Experience working in an international environment or within the UN system is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in statistical packages such as R, Python, and MatLab is essential. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel are required. Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong coordination and organizational abilities, and good analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary. A solid understanding of quantitative research designs and methods is also important.
