Organizational Context
UNESCO's Education Sector leads globally and regionally to ensure quality education for all throughout life. In Peru, UNESCO and Fundación Porticus launched the Horizontes Amazonía program in 2024 to provide secondary education in the Amazon region. This program aims to equip adolescents with socio-emotional, intercultural, environmental, and sustainable technical-productive skills for citizenship and territorial connection.
Job Purpose
UNESCO seeks a Pedagogical Specialist for Atalaya, Coronel Portillo, and Padre Abad in Ucayali, Peru, to provide technical and pedagogical support for the Horizontes Amazonía program. The role involves strengthening capacities and ensuring effective implementation in targeted educational institutions. The specialist will offer pedagogical assistance, focusing on curriculum planning with active methodologies, knowledge sharing, and community participation, while integrating intercultural bilingualism, gender, and socio-emotional well-being. This position requires close collaboration with regional educational authorities and local stakeholders to foster student well-being, protection, and community engagement.
Responsibilities
The Pedagogical Specialist will provide technical assistance, capacity building, and pedagogical support for curriculum development. This includes advising teachers on annual and unit planning using learning projects, integrating territorial issues into curriculum design, and guiding school directors and staff on active learning methodologies. The specialist will also support the diversification of teaching strategies and educational materials tailored to local contexts. Responsibilities extend to promoting student well-being and protection by guiding teachers on preventing violence and fostering socio-emotional support. Additionally, the role involves fostering student and community participation, strengthening inter-institutional articulation, and managing territorial partnerships to support student welfare and rights. The specialist will design and maintain a system for recording pedagogical evidence and prepare monthly progress reports, including identified gaps and needs.
Work Experience
Minimum of four years of experience in public or private institutions. At least three years of experience in pedagogical accompaniment, technical assistance, capacity building, educational management, or educational program implementation. Three years of professional experience in the education sector is mandatory. Experience in the Amazon region is a plus.
Skills
Strong communication, accountability, teamwork, and planning/organizing skills are essential. Proficiency in Spanish is required. Experience in the Amazon region is advantageous. The candidate must be willing to travel within the country as needed.
