Job Purpose
The Chauffeur is responsible for safely transporting UNESCO personnel, official visitors, and project-related goods and services. This includes driving within the country and to/from the airport, adhering to UN safety standards and national traffic laws. The role involves ensuring the vehicle is maintained, documents are up-to-date, and all logistical needs for missions are met. The Chauffeur will also assist with airport formalities for visitors and handle official mail and package deliveries. Punctuality, reliability, and discretion are essential for supporting the smooth functioning of the office and its activities.
Responsibilities
Safely drive UNESCO staff and official visitors, including high-ranking officials, to various destinations according to scheduled programs. Ensure the secure and timely transportation of goods and services essential for project activities. Operate the assigned vehicle in compliance with technical standards and organizational procedures. Maintain all vehicle documents, ensuring their validity and keeping them readily accessible. Provide airport reception and escort services for staff and visitors, assisting with immigration procedures. Perform minor technical repairs on the vehicle and report significant issues promptly. Maintain the cleanliness and daily upkeep of the vehicle. Accurately record fuel consumption, mileage, and maintenance information in the logbook. Prepare the vehicle for missions, including checking safety equipment and loading necessary supplies. Handle official mail, pouches, and packages, including airport collections and postal services. Submit detailed accident reports within 48 hours. Perform any other duties assigned by management.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional driving experience is required. An impeccable driving record is essential. Previous experience within the UN system is an asset.
Skills
Excellent knowledge of local driving rules and regulations. Ability to perform minor vehicle repairs. Strict punctuality and reliability. Safe and defensive driving practices. Good sense of direction and familiarity with local road conditions. Ability to work extended hours and under pressure. Discretion and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
