Organizational Context
This role operates within the UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), established through a Memorandum of Understanding between UNESCO and Italy. The position is under the overall supervision of the WWAP Coordinator and reports directly to the Programme Specialist, contributing to the program's communication and publication efforts.
Job Purpose
The Video and Graphic Designer will be responsible for the comprehensive design and layout of key UNESCO publications, including the United Nations World Water Development Reports (UN WWDR) for 2026 and 2027. This involves preparing and finalizing print-ready files in multiple languages, redrawing figures and tables for clarity, and creating source layout templates for translations. The role also encompasses designing other WWAP publications, developing visual concepts, and producing finalized layouts. Additionally, the designer will create outreach and communication materials such as video trailers, PowerPoint presentations, email campaigns, social media assets, event flyers, and infographics to effectively communicate WWAP's findings and promote its activities.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include designing and laying out the UN WWDR 2026 Spanish version, ensuring print-readiness by incorporating feedback. For the UN WWDR 2027, the designer will develop initial design proposals, prepare and finalize layouts for the main report in English and French, and for executive summaries and facts & figures in multiple languages. This involves redrawing and vectorizing figures and tables for publication and creating adaptable source layout templates. The role also extends to designing other WWAP publications, such as "Evaluación de los ecosistemas acuáticos..." and "Educación Hídrica...", including visual concepts and finalized layouts. Furthermore, the designer will produce outreach materials for UN WWDR launches and other events, including video trailers, PowerPoint decks, email campaigns, social media assets, event flyers, digital invitations, and e-banners. The production of infographics and data visualizations to communicate key findings is also a core responsibility.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in video and graphic design is required.
Skills
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects) and video/audio editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut) is essential. Demonstrated experience in print and web design, video editing, and motion design is required. A solid command of the English language is necessary. Familiarity with UN publication design standards is desirable.
