The Memory of the World (MoW) Programme, managed by the Documentary Heritage Unit, focuses on preserving and promoting access to documentary heritage. Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to enhance the communication, visibility, and outreach efforts for the Memory of the World (MoW) Programme and its associated projects. The consultant will ensure projects are effectively showcased to target audiences, highlighting their contributions to policy advocacy, capacity development, research, education, and intercultural understanding. The role is crucial for maximizing the reach and impact of UNESCO's documentary heritage preservation initiatives, ensuring that achievements are communicated coherently and engagingly to donors, policymakers, educators, and the general public.
Responsibilities
The consultant will support the enhancement of the Documentary Heritage Unit's visibility by developing promotional materials and communication plans for MoW projects. Key tasks include producing high-visibility content such as news articles, success stories, press releases, and social media posts. The consultant will also assist in data collection for the 2015 Recommendation consultation, manage communication with stakeholders, and support the dissemination of surveys. Additionally, the role involves proposing and developing engaging content like infographics and audiovisual materials, liaising with internal and external partners for consistent messaging, and supporting public awareness activities. For the UNESCO Jikji Prize, the consultant will serve as a communication focal point, manage nomination documentation, monitor timelines, and prepare reports and outreach materials. The consultant will also manage the MoW website, ensuring timely updates, monitoring functionality, and collecting materials for the International Register. Other tasks include assisting with briefings, strategy documents, and contributing to project proposals.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in communication, outreach, and advocacy is necessary, with at least one year at the international level. Experience in preparing high-quality visibility materials and developing communication strategies for international dissemination is essential. Experience with the UN system or international development cooperation is desirable.
Skills
Excellent analytical, drafting, and editing skills in English and French are required. Proficiency in content management systems (e.g., Drupal) and graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is necessary. Strong research, communication, advocacy, and collaboration abilities are crucial. Familiarity with the Memory of the World Programme is desirable.
