Organizational Context
UNESCO's Education Sector promotes transformative education focused on developing competencies for 21st-century challenges. In Peru, the UNESCO-Quellaveco-Reimagina Project (2024-2027) aims to drive educational transformation in Moquegua. It strengthens student learning through active methodologies, socio-emotional and digital skills, and school-community articulation, integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). This approach fosters knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes for responsible action on environmental, social, and economic issues, contributing to local sustainable development.
Job Purpose
The consultant will provide technical assistance and pedagogical support to management and teachers in prioritized educational institutions in Moquegua. The primary goal is to improve learning outcomes by implementing active methodologies and the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) approach. This role strengthens competencies for global citizenship, sustainability, and territorial transformation within the UNESCO-Quellaveco-Reimagina Project framework. The consultant will contribute to integrating environmental, social, and economic issues into educational planning, support leadership development for sustainability, foster school-community linkages, and ensure educational projects address real-world problems and contribute to local sustainable development.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for programmatic planning and coordination, promoting the integration of territorial environmental, social, and economic issues into educational planning. They will support management teams in strengthening pedagogical leadership focused on sustainability and foster articulation between educational institutions and territorial actors. The role involves ensuring educational projects address real problems and contribute to local sustainable development. Pedagogical advisory includes supporting the implementation of active methodologies (e.g., PBL, experiential learning, design thinking) with a sustainability focus, guiding the design of learning projects linked to territorial challenges, and strengthening teacher competencies in critical thinking, problem-solving, responsible decision-making, and collaboration. The consultant will also promote interdisciplinary learning experiences, leverage technology for problem-solving, support educational pathways with a sustainable focus, and implement plans for articulated attention to single-teacher and multi-grade schools. Reporting involves systematizing progress, incorporating sustainability indicators, analyzing project impact, and preparing regular reports. Teamwork includes fostering a positive and collaborative environment, participating in project meetings, promoting teacher learning communities, and facilitating experience exchange.
Work Experience
Over 8 years of professional experience is required, including at least 5 years in teaching at public or private institutions. A minimum of 5 years of experience in educational projects as an advisor, facilitator, pedagogical monitor, or technical assistant is necessary. Experience in at least two projects related to sustainability, territorial development, or social impact educational innovation is desirable. Experience with technology in educational projects is also required.
Skills
Key competencies include Communication, Accountability, Planning and Organization, and Results Focus. Desirable skills encompass proactivity, teamwork, assertive communication, and knowledge of the national curriculum. Proficiency in Spanish (native level) is essential.
