Consultant - Media Relations Manager
Organizational Context
UNESCO is actively involved in supporting Ukraine's cultural sector following the extensive destruction caused by the full-scale invasion. The organization collaborates with the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine to ensure systematic, coordinated, and strategic communication for the recovery and development of cultural infrastructure and heritage. This includes managing national and international communication efforts, publicizing reforms, and ensuring donor visibility.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to strategically manage communication activities within Ukraine's cultural and heritage sectors, particularly focusing on the Recovery Support Unit's initiatives. This involves ensuring the visibility of the unit's projects across various media channels, coordinating with the Ministry of Culture's communications team, and engaging strategically with national and international media. The role also entails supporting public communication campaigns for reforms, managing communication for international events, and ensuring all outputs reflect the partnership between the Ministry of Culture, UNESCO, and the Government of Japan.
Responsibilities
Coordinate the communications team at the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, overseeing PR, SMM, content, and media relations. Ensure the effective implementation of a unified communication policy, including publicizing reforms, international communication, and crisis management. Develop and maintain a unified approach to communication policy and prepare key messages and briefing materials. Engage strategically with national and international media, focusing on the Recovery Support Unit's work. Devise and implement a communication plan for the Recovery Support Unit, aligning all outputs with UNESCO standards and donor requirements. Coordinate public communication campaigns, support international events, and manage crisis communications. Monitor the information space, respond to communication challenges, and ensure appropriate co-branding and acknowledgement of partners and donors.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in strategic communications or public relations. Proven experience in team management, coordinating communication processes, and media relations, including international media. Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies and campaigns, as well as crisis communications and reputational risk management, is required. Experience in the cultural sector or public policy is considered an asset.
Skills
Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills are essential for this role. Fluency in Ukrainian and English is also required.
