Organizational Context
The World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) operates under a Memorandum of Understanding between UNESCO and Italy. This consultant role supports WWAP's mission, focusing on gender equality and water resources. The position is situated within the Natural Sciences Sector, contributing to key projects and communication efforts to enhance the visibility and impact of WWAP's work in these critical areas.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to enhance the visibility and impact of UNESCO's World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) by focusing on gender equality, water resources, and effective communication. The consultant will manage social media activities, develop engaging content for platforms like X and LinkedIn, and interact with relevant accounts to grow the follower base. Key objectives include supporting water and gender communication for specific GEF projects, such as the GEF MedProgramme CP 2.1 and CMDA Mekong Delta Aquifer project. The role also involves creating and updating content for the WWAP water and gender website and drafting articles for the UNESCO website, ensuring consistent messaging and broad dissemination of project results and program activities.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for executing comprehensive communication strategies to ensure the visibility of WWAP activities and publications, with a focus on water and gender. This includes managing social media content across platforms like X and LinkedIn, fostering engagement, and growing the follower base. The role involves supporting communication for specific GEF projects, reporting on project implementation, and contributing to generic communication materials such as articles and webpages. Additionally, the consultant will update and develop content for the WWAP water and gender website and draft articles for the UNESCO website. A key responsibility is providing assistance in knowledge production and capacity development, including revising and developing training materials related to water and gender. The consultant will also support the preparation and organization of gender and water events, both online and in-person, which includes drafting agendas, liaising with partners, and preparing post-event reports. Ad-hoc support for document preparation, presentations, reporting, and gender mainstreaming of publications is also required, along with maintaining and updating a database of water and gender resources.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience is necessary, with a preference for experience in freshwater and gender-related activities, particularly focusing on gender-responsive indicators.
Skills
Required skills include experience in capacity development related to water and gender equality, social inclusion, and disaggregated water data. Proficiency in IT is essential, along with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively within a team environment. Strong networking and participatory process skills are also valued.
