Senior Project Assistant
Organizational Context
Under the overall authority of the UNESCO Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, and direct supervision from the Head of the Myanmar Project Antenna and the program specialist, the incumbent will support the implementation of UNESCO Myanmar Projects, specifically the System Capacity Grant (SCG) and System Transformation Grant (STG). The UNESCO Myanmar Project Antenna Office is crucial for advancing Myanmar's education sector through technical assistance, policy advocacy, and partner coordination, fostering dialogue and capacity development.
Job Purpose
The Senior Project Assistant will provide comprehensive administrative and operational support for the execution of UNESCO Myanmar Projects, focusing on the System Capacity Grant (SCG) and System Transformation Grant (STG). This role involves ensuring timely and accurate project implementation in compliance with UNESCO's HR, Administrative, and Financial regulations. The incumbent will manage procurement, recruitment, and logistics, monitor project commitments and expenditures, and maintain project files for planning and evaluation. Additionally, the position requires providing guidance on finance and budget procedures, identifying operational risks, and facilitating communication with internal and external partners to ensure the successful delivery of project objectives and contribute to inclusive, equitable, and quality education initiatives.
Responsibilities
Provide administrative support for project execution, including procurement, recruitment, and logistics, advising colleagues on relevant rules and procedures. Monitor project progress by regularly reporting on commitments and expenditures. Compile and maintain project data and files for planning, analysis, and evaluation, presenting information in narrative or graphic formats as needed. Offer guidance and interpretation of finance and budget regulations to internal staff and implementing partners. Identify operational risks, alert supervisors and partners to errors or problems, and propose corrective actions. Perform technical and procedural duties related to finance, budget, logistics, and HR operations. Assist in disseminating information and fostering effective communication regarding project implementation with various units, colleagues, and external partners. Undertake additional activities as required to support the work team's success and ensure the overall efficient and effective implementation of project activities.
Work Experience
A minimum of eight years of work experience in integrated service execution and comprehensive process support is required, preferably within an international environment. Experience within the UN System or other international organizations is highly desirable.
Skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Proficiency in data management, organization, and coordination is required, with an aptitude for working under pressure. Discretion, initiative, and a service-oriented approach are necessary. The ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is important. Flexibility, attention to detail, and proficiency with standard office software are also key requirements.
