Security Information Systems Assistant
Organizational Context
The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) globally leads and supports the UN security management system. UNDSS enables the safe and effective delivery of UN programs in complex environments. The ICT team is crucial for increasing reliance on digital technology, deploying solutions for smarter, more efficient operations. This role supports the UNDSS team in Diamniadio, Senegal.
Job Purpose
The ICT Security Assistant provides essential ICT and administrative support to the UNDSS team in Diamniadio, Senegal. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of information management tools and technology infrastructure, promoting a client-oriented approach. The position contributes to the overall mission of enabling United Nations system program activities through trusted security leadership and solutions, ultimately supporting peace, security, human rights, and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals by enabling program delivery in challenging environments.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include supporting the implementation of security information systems and strategies by participating in development, programming, testing, debugging, and implementation of security systems. This involves liaising with users to define requirements, developing and testing simple computer applications, and maintaining functional specifications. The role also ensures the effective functioning of team hardware and software by installing systems, evaluating solutions, ensuring license compliance, and installing software patches. Additionally, the assistant will support network administration, prepare technical documentation and training materials, organize user training, and maintain filing systems for confidential materials. Facilitating knowledge building and sharing within the team on ICT issues is also a core duty.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required with a high school diploma, or 2 years with a bachelor's degree. Experience should include network administration, web design, technical support for hardware/software or cloud ERP environments, telecommunications facilities, database applications, web-based management systems, and cloud infrastructure solutions. Experience with user-centered designs and troubleshooting hardware/software issues is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in IT customer support, network administration, and managing hardware/software. Ability to develop and implement simple computer applications. Strong troubleshooting skills for hardware and software issues. Knowledge of operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), servers, networks, and databases is highly desirable. Familiarity with virtualization technologies and programming languages is also beneficial.
