Project Associate (Debris and Waste Management)
Organizational Context
UNDP's Innovation & Effectiveness department is implementing the Earthquake Response – Community Led Recovery and Reconstruction Project in Mandalay, Myanmar. This project aims to support inclusive and resilient recovery following a major earthquake, focusing on livelihoods, infrastructure, and essential services restoration. The Project Associate role is integral to the Debris and Waste Management component of this critical initiative.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate will coordinate the Debris and Waste Management team within the Earthquake Response Project. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth implementation of project activities by providing essential operational, administrative, and logistical coordination. The incumbent will offer technical guidance, support planning and monitoring, and facilitate coordination for all debris and waste management efforts. This includes activities such as debris removal, site clean-ups, demolition of damaged structures, establishing recycling centers, managing hazardous waste, and conducting public awareness campaigns, all contributing to the community-led recovery and reconstruction efforts post-earthquake.
Responsibilities
The Project Associate is responsible for coordinating the Debris and Waste Management team, ensuring operational, administrative, and logistical efficiency for project activities. Key duties include supporting the planning, implementation, and monitoring of debris and waste management activities, which involves coordinating assessments, organizing training sessions, developing awareness materials, and preparing activity plans. The role requires providing technical guidance on assessment methodologies, reviewing findings, and supporting the design and implementation of interventions. Additionally, the Associate will support process optimization for project efficiency, engage with stakeholders including UN agencies, NGOs, and community representatives, and ensure quality control and assurance throughout project implementation. This includes liaising with teams, maintaining documentation, establishing quality control protocols, and generating quality assurance reports. The role also involves producing detailed progress reports on debris management activities and performing other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
A minimum of 6 years of relevant progressively responsible administrative, management, or program experience is required with a secondary education. Alternatively, 3 years of experience is required with a bachelor's degree. Experience should be in the technical/engineering field within international organizations, specifically supporting debris and waste management, recovery, shelter, and infrastructure projects.
