Organizational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine supports poverty reduction, inequality reduction, and resilience building. Operating in three key priorities, UNDP is actively involved in emergency response and crisis management. This role, based in Mykolaiv, supports the scale-up of area-based work focused on reconstruction, returns, resilience, and reforms, aiming for community recovery and a return to development pathways.

Job Purpose

The Youth Engagement Associate will strengthen local dialogue and trust-building in war-affected communities in Mykolaiv oblast. This role focuses on fostering the inclusive participation of young women and men in decision-making and recovery planning. By supporting youth networks, civic activism, and volunteerism, the Associate will enhance community resilience and social cohesion. Regular duty trips to partner communities are required for outreach, coordination, and monitoring of youth-led initiatives, contributing to UNDP's recovery efforts.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include supporting local dialogue and trust-building by engaging youth in decision-making processes and fostering interaction with local authorities. This involves establishing platforms for networking, supporting advocacy for youth participation in consultations, and organizing consultations on youth inclusion and recovery planning. The role also contributes to developing civic activism and volunteerism by supporting youth organizations, facilitating capacity-building, and promoting tolerance education in schools. Additionally, the Associate will ensure the mainstreaming of gender equality and promote a safe, inclusive work environment, adhering to corporate standards on non-discrimination and zero tolerance for misconduct.

Work Experience

A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible project experience in youth work and engagement (with secondary education) or 3 years (with a university degree) is required. Experience with computers, office software (MS Word, Excel), database packages, and web-based management systems is necessary. Willingness to travel regularly to field sites in Mykolaiv oblast is essential.
