Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and MINUSCA are supporting the Special Criminal Court (CPS) and the Truth, Justice, Reparation, and Reconciliation Commission (CVJRR) in the Central African Republic. This role is within the Victim and Witness Support and Protection Unit (USPVT) of the CPS Registry, contributing to national transitional justice mechanisms and the restoration of social fabric.
Job Purpose
The Psychologist/Psychotrauma Specialist will provide specialized technical support in psychological assessment, trauma care, and psychosocial support for victims and witnesses involved in the Special Criminal Court (CPS) proceedings. The role aims to enhance the well-being, safety, resilience, and effective participation of victims and witnesses. Additionally, the position will contribute to capacity building for CVJRR personnel and the development of best practices in psychosocial support and trauma management, fostering a sustainable and coordinated national approach to victim support.
Responsibilities
Provide specialized technical support in mental health, trauma, and victim/witness protection, including conducting psychological and psychosocial assessments, evaluating needs, and formulating recommendations for support measures. Manage cases by developing and implementing individualized psychosocial support plans, providing direct support to victims participating in CVJRR activities, and strengthening the CPS victim and witness support program. Coordinate services by liaising with specialized structures, healthcare providers, NGOs, and international organizations to facilitate access to necessary services and contribute to referral mechanisms. Enhance capacity through designing and delivering training, mentoring, and coaching programs for national staff and other stakeholders on mental health, trauma care, and protection of vulnerable individuals. Foster institutional cooperation by developing partnerships, supporting collaboration between the CPS and CVJRR, and contributing to sustainable support networks and policies for victims.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in psychology, with a focus on trauma, psychosocial support, and working with victims of serious human rights violations. Experience in transitional justice settings or with international organizations is preferred.
