Organizational Context
The Bureau for Management Services' Office of Financial Resources Management (BMS/OFRM) supports UNDP's implementation of the 2030 agenda and Strategic Plan by enhancing financial and administrative performance. It provides functional leadership, promotes financial sustainability, and offers advisory services to Bureaux and Country Offices. The Finance Integration & Technologies (FIT) function within the Financial Performance Management & Reporting (FPMR) team focuses on leveraging data, automation, and AI to improve financial reporting quality, speed, and reliability.
Job Purpose
The Finance Specialist, FIT, plays a crucial role in strengthening the efficiency, quality, and control of core finance processes within the Financial Performance Management & Reporting (FPMR) team. This position leads the design, implementation, and delivery of finance process improvements, automation initiatives, and data-enabled solutions. By focusing on the record-to-report lifecycle, the role directly impacts the organization's ability to achieve fast close and continuous accounting objectives. The specialist is expected to drive automation and system-enabled solutions, ensuring durable and scalable outcomes that enhance financial reporting and support informed decision-making by senior management. This contributes to the overall financial integrity and operational effectiveness of UNDP.
Responsibilities
The Finance Specialist is responsible for analyzing and improving core finance processes, particularly within the record-to-report lifecycle, to identify inefficiencies and automation opportunities. This includes documenting current and future state processes, leading the implementation of approved improvements, and supporting fast close initiatives by addressing manual interventions and bottlenecks. The role involves implementing automation, systems, and data-enabled solutions by preparing requirements, assisting with configuration, and conducting testing. Additionally, the specialist provides analytical support for finance transformation initiatives, prepares business cases, and develops documentation for adopted changes. Cross-functional coordination with finance units, GSSC, and IT is essential for delivering process and system improvements, including change management activities. The role also involves synthesizing lessons learned and best practices in finance.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (with a master's degree) or 7 years (with a bachelor's degree) is required. This experience should include applying analytical techniques to financial system outputs to identify trends and process improvements. Experience with AI, digital transformation, process automation, international accounting standards (IPSAS/IFRS), and ERP systems (Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP, Oracle Cloud EPM) is highly desirable. Audit, consulting, or process transformation experience in large organizations is also advantageous.
